LCD Soundsystem Album Update
James Murphy blogs from MTV Awards
James Murphy has a lot on his plate these days, recording a new album with LCD Soundsystem and blogging from the MTV Movie Awards.
A long time DJ and sound engineer, James Murphy grew increasingly frustrated with an increasingly grey music scene. Joining forces with Tim Goldsworthy, the pair founded DFA Records.
Having released records by the likes of The Rapture, The Juan MacLean and Hercules & Love Affair, the label has had a titanic affect on dance music. However it is perhaps Murphy's own project, LCD Soundsystem, that has generated the most column inches.
The group's debut album somehow found its way into our Essential 50, but for most people it is the follow up 'Sound Of Silver' that has the trembling heart of the group. Deeply emotional, lead single 'Someone Great' became an underground hit on its release in 2007.
However since then LCD Soundsystem have been relatively inactive. In a new MySpace posting James Murphy reveals that "making a record is strange. last time i made a record i had a pretty brutal and miserable experience."
"then i made something that wasn't the record, went back to said record, and had a great experience. it all worked out. this time i'm having a pretty great experience. i like the record more, but have no idea if that means it's better or anything. it's just more fun."
Continuing the New York producer claimed that "now when i'm not actually working on the record, i'm doing something i like and that occupies my mind, rather than sitting in a room with my head in my hands wondering if i still know how to make music."
Later on in the blog, James Murphy reveals that he was able to attend the recent MTV movie Award, which Burno of course hijacked by landing ass first on Eminem's face. Listing the things he learned at the ceremony, Murphy claimed that "will ferrell is very nice in person, and must be exhausted with how much effort he puts in to seeming like a decent, regular guy. i met him very quickly and he was so absurdly nice that i felt like a dick for all the times i was wooden and awkward with strangers at a festival or something."
Continuing, the producer also stated that "comedians are funny in person, but not the way you think" and revealed that "chris isaacs likes his dog".
The LCD Soundsystem mainman also revealed that he often looks to British television for inspiration, claiming he had "played "goodminton" (which is badminton where the object is to keep the birdie in play as long as possible), ate in n' out burger, and watched several episodes of the BBC show "ashes to ashes", which has amazing music."
James Murphy is set to perform a very special disco mix at RockNess.
