Kooks Work On New Material

Band retreat to Norfolk

Brighton's massively successful indie stars The Kooks are set to being work on their new album.

Led by Luke Pritchard, the band escaped their origins on a small independent label to score massive chart success with their debut album 'Inside In / Inside Out' going platinum several times over.

Singles such as 'She Moves In Her Own Way' became summer anthems, and the band faced considerable pressure on the follow up. The Kooks grabbed a once in a lifetime chance and recorded the album in the London studio belonging to their hero Ray Davies.

Named after the studio, 'Konk' was praised by critics as a more mature work than the debut. However despite topping the charts the album has so far failed to match the commercial appeal of their debut.

Not long after the album was released it was announced that the group had prepared a mini-album of material taken from the sessions but not included on 'Konk'. Released as 'Rak', the collection has become a firm favourite with fans.

The Kooks revealed in a Radio 1 interview that they have begun working on a follow up.luke Pritchard revealed that "we kind of barricaded ourselves in the countryside for a few weeks - stayed at some friend's who have a cottage in Norfolk. (We've) just been rehearsing and writing new stuff."

"I feel really fresh about the band - I guess generally we're still just such friends. It's cool, we've just been having fun really."

The Kooks have confirmed a number of festival appearances over the summer, including a headline slot at the Eden Sessions in Cornwall.
