Kinks Reformation On Cards?

Legendary Band Could Reunite

Legendary London group The Kinks may be about to reform, lead singer Ray Davies has claimed in a new interview.

The band formed in the early 60s, and played on the London rhythm and blues scene. The thundering power chords of guitarist Dave Davies were the secret to the band's initial success, with classic singles such as "You Really Got Me". As the band matured so too did their songwriting style, with singer Ray Davies' attention to English life transforming The Kinks into one of British music's most celebrated acts.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4, the singer said There is a desire to do it. The thing that would make me decide 'Yes' or 'No' would be whether or not we could do new songs. I couldn't do it just for nostalgic reasons. My pitch to the other guys in the band was what would we have written if we hadn't have had our first hit, 'You Really Got Me'? What if we put ourselves in that situation, what would have happened? I think new work is important for artists as they mature and get older."

The main stumbling block with the band reforming is that guitarist Dave Davies is still suffering the after effects of a recent stroke. Since the stroke in 2004 the guitarist has been battling ill health, but may now be strong enough to withstand a tour.

The Kinks last performed together onstage in 1996.
