Kings Of Leon Hit Top Spot

Cliff Richard Denied

Kings of Leon have denied wrinkly rocker Cliff Richard the top spot in the UK singles chart after their single "Sex On Fire" took the the number slot in a fiercely competed chart.

Kings Of Leon were neck and neck with fauz-lesbian Katy Perry for much of the week, with only a few thousand copies seperating the two acts. Katy Perry had occupied the pole position for a number of weeks, as her song "I Kissed A Girl" became a summer anthem.

This is the first number one single for Kings Of Leon in the UK, and comes after a stunning summer for the band as they played headline slots at Glastonbury, T In The Park and more. With new album "Only By The Night" set to be released soon, Kings Of Leon seem to be set to make the transition from indie heroes to stadium gods.

In the album charts the big battle was between metal gods Metallica and plucky Scots Glasvegas. In the end, it was a typically Scottish performance as the epic fuzz rockers grasped defeat from the jaws of victory. Ahead in sales all week, it was only a last minute burst by the download hating thrash troupe which saw the Glasgow band defeated.

Also in the album chart this week were Elbow, whose Mercury award winning album "The Seldom Seen Kid" made a stunning re-entry at number seven.
