Kasabian To Sing Before England Game

Leicester band to play national anthem

Returning Leicester group Kasabian are to sing the national anthem before tonight's (April 1st) England game.

The band are keen football fans, and have appeared on cult show Soccer AM many times. In addition to this, Kasabian's music frequently trails football coverage on television, making them ideal candidates to hype up the crowd.

The group are set to play Wembley stadium later this year with Oasis, and this makes for the perfect warm up.

England are set to take to the pitch again Ukraine. Manager Fabio Capello has stated that the match is vital, with England almost guaranteed qualification for the next world cup if they win the tie.

According to reports a group of senior players in the England camp approached Kasabian to sing the pre-match anthem to help motivate the team. The band were obviously impressed, and are set to segue 'God Save The Queen' into their new download single 'Vlad The Impaler'.

Released yesterday (March 31st) as a free download, the track is the fan's first glimpse of their forthcoming album 'West Rider Pauper Asylum'. The song is a free download, but will come with an unusual new video courtesy of Richard Ayoade.

A spokesperson for the group told NME: "The band are all footie mad, so were more than happy to 'play' Wembley, especially as it means they'll beat Oasis to the stadium. Even Serge (Pizzorno), who supports Italy normally, is buzzing that the England players asked them to perform."

Kasabian recently announced details of a massive tour which kicks off with a three night residency in their hometown of Leicester in May.
