Last week it was the turn of the DJ’s, this week sees the release of the first round of Live acts for Snowbombing 2013. Yes, the seemingly everlasting list has had more names added to it…
The last few years have seen various dance establishments ostensibly open their doors to the guitar and whilst things like Ibiza Rocks have been having an impact on the seemingly resolute cultural identity of Ibiza, the Snowbombing lot have been mixing it up for years. As with all their artist announcements, each year seems to produce names bigger and bolder than the previous outings. And as it’s Snowbombing, they aren’t afraid to include the odd surprise package. Last year’s big Live headliner was Dizzee; this year sees the organisers seeking a more indie-focused approach in the form of the gregarious yet nonchalant Kasabian. There are fewer bands around who have made their way from rock seedlings to stadium rockers via the odd fashion designer ad campaign without outwardly losing any of their credibility.
There’s no doubting it’s been a big year for Disclosure, the two brothers have had a cracking summer. Supporting SBTRKT and Hot Chip on tour isn’t for small fry, nor is having your remix added to Annie Mac’s annual compilation. These boys join the list of young producers who have locked horns with the hype machine and won. They join the cast for Snowbombing 2013 with heads held high. Similarly, it’s been a rollercoaster of a few months for Rudimental, whose hit ‘Feel the Love’ achieved UK No. 1 status. Also on the bill are the Foreign Beggars, whose versatility and eye for a collaboration have kept them fresh for nearly 10 years now.
Casting our eyes further down the list another name jumps out at us, Ms Dynamite. Since her last album ‘Judgment Days’ in 2005, the singer/rapper has steadily put out a succession of collaborations, with the likes of DJ Zinc, Redlight, her sibling Akala, Katie B and Shy FX. There’s no doubting her pedigree as one of the UK’s most prominent female voices and we have to acknowledge that despite her early commercial success, she’s never strayed far from her roots. Completing this urban-flavoured troupe of performers is London Grime MC P Money.
These artists join a heady cast of DJ’s to complete the first round of announcements for Snowbombing 2013. Expect more to come.
