Kasabian Fight To Save Venue

Charlotte launch pad for group

Leicester indie rock giants Kasabian have joined the fight to save their hometown venue The Charlotte.

The group are now more used to playing huge arenas and topping the charts, but at one point Kasabian were just a struggling indie group like all the rest. The band regularly played Leicester's The Charlotte venue in their early days, as the venue was a cornerstone in the local music scene.

Lead singer Tom Meighan told the Leicester Mercury of his shock at the venue closing. "I found out on Thursday it might be shutting, but I haven't heard anything more. It's the recession, man, it's happening to everyone."

The Charlotte has been placed in administration by its owners and may be sold off. There is no guarantee that it would remain a venue.

"It's awful because I know Andy well" Meighan said. "We'll do something if we can save the Charlotte, we've spoken about it, but we're not sure what's going to happen yet.

"If we can help, we will. At the end of the day, it's a legendary venue. It's quite distressing to hear that it might be taken away."

"That place needs to stay. At the end of the day, if it wasn't for places like that... who knows?"
