Kapranos Resigns As Writer
Franz singer sticks to music
Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos has shocked British newspaper The Guardian by resigning from his role of a food critic.
Scottish indie gentry Franz Ferdinand released their long awaited third album earlier this year. A diverse set, it nonetheless contained much of the pop nous the band are famed for.
Alex Kapranos has had a lengthy career outside the band. First working with Glasgow group The Yummy Fur, Kapranos is also apparently a qualified teacher and has also given lectures containing his thoughts on music and lyric writing.
However, the singer surprised onlookers when he became The Guardian's culinary expert. Kapranos previously worked in a variety of restaurants, telling the newspaper "I remembered working in my first restaurant in Fort William when a chef asked, 'Hey, you want a slice of shark?' And my response was, 'Shark? What the f**k?' I figured it would actually be interesting to write from a naive perspective."
The singer's regular columns will be collected into a book titled 'Sound Bites', but Kapranos says the writing must stop. "I had a couple of calls from TV stations asking if I wanted to present food programmes, and I thought, 'God, this has got to stop. This is not who I am.'"
Franz Ferdinand's new album 'Tonight: Franz Ferdinand' is available now.
