Kanye West has unveiled his new short film 'Cruel Summer' with a première in Cannes.

Kanye West is a man of many talents. Hooking up with Louis Vuitton for a trainer collaboration in 2010, the rapper then confirmed plans for his directorial debut.

Flying a team out to the Middle East, fans were forced to wait and speculate as to what Yeezy was up to now. A short film, 'Cruel Summer' finally received its première with a special screening at Cannes.

MTV was there (via Pitchfork), and notes that Kid Cudi plays the central character. The film was apparently shown on seven screens, showing each piece of action from a different angle.

Kanye West introduced the film with a short speech at the screening. "It related to a post-Steve Jobs, post-Windows era, where we're always on our BlackBerry in a ball game or at the movies," he said.

"I'm not the best director in the world, but I had an idea that I thought would be amazing to inspire people, like a dream of one day this being the way people watch movies."

Of course, Kanye West is in Europe for an altogether different reason. Teaming up with Jay-Z, the pair took 'Watch The Throne' across the Atlantic including some stunning concerts in London.

Clash writer Vanessa Laker went along, writing: "Suddenly, the music dips and the venue erupts into frenzied applause, as the superstar rappers emerge. Sticking to their “all black everything” motto, both are decked out in black clothing from head to toe – with West donning what appears to be a skirt over his leather trousers. And in an intriguingly unique entrance, West, 34, and 42-year-old Jigga enter the stage on boxes from opposite sides of the venue..."
