London dubtep newcomer Joy Orbison has confirmed details of his new EP 'The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow'.
Bass music is always evolving. From dark garage came dubstep, from dubstep came wonky hip hop and now? Well if Joy Orbison has his way the bass scene could well be set to produce something more euphoric.
Emerging last year "Joy Orbison's track 'Hyph Mngo' became a bona fide anthem. Crossing boundaries, the track signalled the arrival of a brave new talent.
Turning preconceptions about bass music on their head, Joy Orbison blended 2 Step, house and more with plenty of dubstep rhythms. Since then, the Croydon boy can do no wrong being headhunted for a series of remixes.
With Four Tet as huge fan, seminal artists are lining up to see what Joy Orbison can do with their material. Check out the Croydon producer's re-working of American jazz singer Jose James, or his deft remix of Four Tet's new material.
Now Joy Orbison has confirmed details of his new EP. Released through Aus Music on February 22nd 'The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow' has already leaked out onto the scene via dubsplates.
Downtempo without being downbeat, the EP contains some startling new material. Big drops, super heavy drum programming and grooves that sound like only Joy Orbison right now, the EP comes complete with some special remixes.
Aside from running the Werk label Actress is a fine producer in his own right. Turning 'The Shrew...' into a spiralling slice of psychedelic dance, the re-working is a stunning signal of intent from both parties.
