Johnny Marr Talks Cribs

Johnny Marr has revealed that when he first met up with The Cribs he had no plan to join the band.

The Cribs are one of the most respected groups in the UK. Sticking to their independent principles the band have risen to become chart contenders, achieving success largely on their own terms.

Recently the band were granted the opportunity to work with one of their heroes. Johnny Marr approached The Cribs to tell them how much he loved their music, when the possibility of a jam session was mentioned.

Speaking to Australian radio station Triple J the guitarist insisted that he had no plans on joining the band. "We took it easy for about the first minute and a half because about two minutes in to playing a riff it just kind of took off. Before we actually switched our amps on we were kind of shrugging our shoulders and going oh you know, doesn't matter if nothing happens. Before we knew it we'd written half a record."

This is the first time Johnny Marr has joined a group as a full time member since he left The Smiths in 1987. Since then his CV boasts solo material as well as stints with The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse and more.

Johnny Marr insisted that the collaboration with The Cribs felt entirely natural. "We got together in a really funky little rehearsal room in Manchester and bashed it out. As I say it immediately sounded like a group."

"It sounded like the record, like you hear it now. When we first started playing it sounded like the very first track on our record because the song hasn't really changed one bit since that very first hour of playing it."

The Cribs are set to see out 2009 with a new British tour.
