Johnny Marr has revealed more details of his new studio album 'The Messenger'.
Ever associated with The Smith, Johnny Marr has spent the past decade making some of the best music of his career. Partnering up with Modest Mouse and The Cribs, the guitarist seemed to find renewed fire in the company of younger musicians.
Now the musician is set to release a new solo album. Seemingly the first solo record of his career, Johnny Marr will release 'The Messenger' through Warner Brothers on February 25th. Recorded in Manchester and Berlin, 'The Messenger' finds Johnny Marr working on vocals, guitar and production.
Currently living in Portland, Oregon the album is influenced by the guitarist's own experiences of life in an urban environment. "The underlying idea of the record is my experience of growing up in Europe,” he explained recently. “When you’re away from your home city you’re more compelled to write about it, whether that’s because you’re homesick or you’ve got more objectivity, I don’t know. Growing up in the city influences you, and I’ve continued to see, stories and energy in it.”
