Jimi Hendrix DVD Due
Unseen footage of star emerges
Legendary guitar hero Jimi Hendrix is to be the subject of a new documentary which will include previously unseen footage of the star.
Hendrix flew into London in 1966 with only his guitar and a change of clothes on his back. With months he had become the most talked about star in Britain, and scored his first hit 'Hey Joe' before the year was out.
The musician revolutionised playing the guitar, taking existing techniques and extending them off into outer space. A ceaseless experimenter with sounds, Hendrix built his own studio - Electric Lady - in which to indulge his sonic ideas.
The new DVD features footage from 1969, when a camera crew followed the mercurial guitar legend around for a month. The 'reality television' style footage will be released in conjunction with Hendrix's estate and Universal Music Publishing Group, reports The Guardian.
Meanwhile, a tape of fourteen previously unreleased songs by Hendrix is due to be auctioned later this year. The tape features Hendrix playing acoustically, showing a lesser heard aspect of his playing. As far as ClashMusic is aware, the only previously released recording of Hendrix playing the acoustic guitar was 'Hear My Train A-Coming' from the 'Experience' motion picture soundtrack.
The tape apparently features demos for songs that would form the spin of 'Electric Ladyland' - Hendrix's third studio album and the last he would see to completion before his death in 1970.
