Jay-Z has decided to change his name – to JAY Z.
Hip-hop is littered with alter egos, fake identities and name changes. However, the biggest name in the land has now decided to make a tiny adjustment to his moniker.
Jay-Z recently delivered his new studio album, the grandly titled 'Magna Carta… Holy Grail' (Clash review). Hitting number one on both sides of the Atlantic, the rapper has decided to make a small adjustment to his life. Jay-Z will become JAY Z, with the change set to be effective immediately.
Billboard editor Joe Levy broke the news via Twitter, writing: "Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note." (via NME)
As Pitchfork point out, the iTunes listing for 'Magna Carta… Holy Grail' now reads JAY Z – as, in fact, does the rest of the rapper's catalogue.
