Jay-Z Is Breaking All Kinds Of Records

'Magna Carta... Holy Grail' is trans-atlantic number one...
Jay-Z

Jay-Z has broken all kinds of records as 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail' races to number one on both sides of the Atlantic.

The return of Jay-Z was expected to be big news. However the scale of success enjoyed by new album 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail' (check out the Clash review HERE) has left even his staunchest supporters surprised.

Becoming the rapper's first UK number one album, 'Magna Carta...' then repeated that success on the opposite of the Atlantic. The hip hop icon's 13th album to debut at number one on the Billboard charts, Jay-Z is only one away from The Beatles' record.

527,000 copies were sold in the first week, easily surpassing sales for Kanye West's new album 'Yeezus'. However the rapper still has some way to go to claim 2013's record - Justin Timberlake's return 'The 20/20 Experience' notched up an explosive 926,000 copies sold in only seven days.

Elsewhere, Spotify have confirmed that 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail' has broken all seven day records. In the United States alone, the album was streamed some 14 million times - which should net Jay-Z a six figure sum. (via Forbes)

Finally, Radio 1 are broadcasting a lengthy interview between Jay-Z and Zane Lowe each night this week.
