Jarvis Cocker Lecture
Pulp Star Speaks At In The City
Former Pulp singer turned solo star Jarvis Cocker has delivered a keynote lecture at this year's In The City music conference in Manchester.
The singer took to the stage yesterday (October 7th) to deliver the lecture titled 'Saying The Unsayable'. A study of his own lyrics, and those of songwriters he admires, the lecture focussed on what made lyrics affective, and his view what made a lyric great.
The singer revealed that Tony Wilson, the founder of the In The City conference, came up with the idea and pushed him into crafting the lecture. This is only the second time the lecture has been delivered, and saw a packed crowd listen intently to the cult figure.
In addition to the discussion, Jarvis Cocker also played a few of his songs in an intimate, acoustic fashion.
In The City has featured many lectures alongside the usual musical hi-jinks, with Culture Secretary Andy Burnham calling for a revival of Top Of The Pops.
