Jarvis Cocker For Question Time

Pulp singer for TV debate

Solo star Jarvis Cocker is set to appear on the television debate show Question Time.

Jarvis Cocker spent years in the wilderness, desperate for fame. His group Pulp held the record for the longest period between their first and second sessions for John Peel - almost a decade, in fact.

However Pulp, with Jarvis Cocker at the helm, triumphed. After the spectacular hits 'Common People' and 'Disco 2000' the band stood to the pinnacle of the Britpop movement, with Cocker being so recognisable he was even lampooned on Spitting Image.

Yet it all ended disastrously. Falling out of love with Britpop and the subsequent 'Cool Britannia' image crafted by Tony Blair, Jarvis Cocker began work on his scathing, paranoid masterpiece 'This Is Hardcore'.

Now solo, Jarvis Cocker remains fiercely outspoken. His early solo track 'Running The World' was a foul-mouthed rant at the new world order, lambasting Bush and Blair for their roles in the Iraq war.

Cocker has been invited to participate in the BBC debate show Question Time. Set to take place on Thursday night (July 2nd) the singer will answer questions on politics and popular culture.

Though the panel is designed to discuss current affairs it is almost inevitable that talk will turn to the tragic death of Michael Jackson. At the singer's famously overblown Brit award performance in 1996 Jarvis Cocker hopped onstage and waved his (fully clothed) bum in the singer's general direction.

A furore erupted, with the tabloid press leaping the Cocker's defence. Of course, the singer is still making great music. Click HERE for our review of his new album 'Further Complications'!

Jarvis Cocker is due to star on Question Time on July 2nd.
