Jarvis Cocker Faber & Faber Role
Songwriter made Editor-At-Large
Jarvis Cocker has taken up a new role at renowned publishing house Faber & Faber.
One of the most renowned independent publishing houses in the UK, Faber & Faber come with a great deal of clout. Expanding their music portfolio, the publishers have decided to hook up with an equally idiosyncratic songwriter.
Pulp main-man and all round top bloke Jarvis Cocker has been installed as the new Editor-At-Large for Faber & Faber. Fulfilling a role once occupied by TS Eliot, the songwriter will work closely with Lee Brackstone and Hannah Griffiths in a broad commissioning role.
The appointment comes as Faber & Faber prepare to publish Jarvis Cocker's collected lyrics. 'Mother, Brother, Lover' is set to be released next week and brings together more than two decades of a very English wit.
A revered songwriter, Jarvis Cocker has always steeped himself in literature. Recently returning to his former High School in Sheffield, the singer decided to return a book to the library - it was 'Nine Modern Poets', a book that contains several writers first published by Faber & Faber.
Occupying a role given to The Who's Pete Townshend in the 80s, Jarvis Cocker joins Faber & Faber as the publishing house prepare a number of music related tomes. 'Future Days: A History of Krautrock' by David Stubbs looks promising while Julian Cope's 'Copendium' will no doubt contain his usual nuggets of wisdom.
"I am proud, and more than a little excited, to be asked to work with Faber in an editorial capacity" said Jarvis Cocker. "It is my dearest hope that we will produce some fantastic books together."
Continuing, Faber & Faber's Colin Brackstone said: "Jarvis felt like a natural fit with the Faber sensibility, both as author and editor, and I'm sure the small list of books he will develop will represent his eccentric and yet popular touch."
"We now have an excellent portfolio of authors from the pop world and our intention is to develop these relationships and continue to build a reputation as the home for exciting and original writing on music."
