Hotly tipped new British artist James McCartney is to play his first ever UK tour later this year.

It must be tough having a rock legend as a parent. Sean and Julian Lennon have struggled to escape the shadow of their illustrious father, while Jacob Dylan has managed to carve out a Grammy award winning career.

The son of former Beatle and all round legend Sir Paul McCartney, James McCartney clearly has a lot to live up to. Let's not forget that when not winning awards for her vegetarian cooking range mum Linda was a guiding hands to Wings, as well.

Playing a number of shows under the pseudonym 'Light' the singer impressed all who saw him before being rumbled by the tabloid press. The dates were then widely reported, which rather put the skids on the whole 'secret show' idea.

Now James McCartney is set to step into the limelight. With a string of potential rock classic in his armoury the singer mixes full throttle riffs with delicate acoustic ballads, showing a tender side to his songwriting.

With an eleven song set, James McCartney is presumably planning his debut album. With that in mind the singer has confirmed a series of UK tour dates which could introduce him to a much wider audience.

Talking about his music James McCartney said: "The music was inspired by The Beatles, Nirvana, The Cure, PJ Harvey, Radiohead - and all good music. It is basically rock 'n' roll, clean sounding and vocal... The words on the album refer to spirituality, love, family, trying to sort out one's life, and many other things."

James McCartney is set to play the following shows:

25 Liverpool O2 Academy 2
26 York Fibbers
28 Newcastle O2 Academy 2

March

4 Nottingham Bodega
7 Tunbridge Wells The Forum
