Jack Penate Writing New Material

New material "rhythmic"

London songwriter Jack Penate has already begun working on his new album, with new material that he claims will be his most experimental to date.

Jack Penate burst out of the London open mic scene with a huge amount of hype. Seeming to capture the essence of life in the capital the singer's debut album 'Matinee' was buried beneath a media fuelled backlash.

However Penate never lost his concentration, and simply retreated to the rehearsal room to write new material. Returning this year with his second album Jack Penate has re-established himself as a songwriting force, finally managing to escape the shackles of that early hype.

After a summer of festival appearances and one off dates Jack Penate has earned some time off. However the singer isn't planning to rest, and has instead begun writing a flurry of new material.

Speaking to BBC's Newsbeat the singer said "I'm writing at the moment. That's the exciting bit. I'm not sure. I'm listening to loads of incredible music so I'll probably take influence from a lot of that stuff."

Asked about his influences Penate claimed to be listening to experimental composer Steve Reich. "It's really beautiful and one of those things that my friend said, 'You should check this record out'. I hadn't heard of him, didn't know what it was and I started listening and for some reason it fit with the way I was feeling."

"I wouldn't mind doing something around that, really rhythmic and repetitive - this is what I'm thinking but I haven't written anything yet."

However Jack Penate isn't sure how and when the songs will be released. "I don't know if it's albums, I think just music - however that is, whether it's an album, whether it's an EP, whether it's just a song."
