J Dilla Equipment To Be Donated To Smithsonian

The producer's mother announces...
Maureen 'Ma Dukes' Yancey

Tragically passing away in 2006, J Dilla left behind an incredible legacy.

At the annual 'DC Loves Dilla' festival at the weekend, the producer's mother confirmed that some of the hip hop icon's equipment will be donated to the Smithsonian Museum.

Perhaps the highest accolade that be afforded an American artist by their mother country, Dilla's custom-made Minimoog Voyager synthesizer and Akai MIDI Production Center 3000 Limited Edition will take pride of place alongside artefacts from Louis Armstrong, Chuck Berry and more.

J Dilla's mother Maureen 'Ma Dukes' Yancey said: "I feel it’s necessary to raise the level of art appreciation in the hip-hop sector and honor my son James Dewitt Yancey, one of the most influential individuals in the history of hip-hop."
