New album, tour in the offing

Interpol have been silent for too damn long.

The band's previous album - an acclaimed eponymous set - arrived in 2010, and since then the intervening period has been dominated by re-issues, side projects and more.

Well, it seems that the New York group are on their way back. Signalling their return, Interpol have confirmed their intention to release new material later this year.

Alongside this, Interpol are due to headline the NME Awards Tour. Daniel Kessler of Interpol said: "We currently find ourselves in the UK finishing the new album so it feels only appropriate to announce our first UK dates of 2014 from here. We're pleased to say that we'll be headlining this year's NME Awards Tour. We had a great time playing the Awards Tour in 2003 and we're very much looking forward to our return. It should be a lot of fun. The UK crowds are among the best!"

Ticket pre-sale opens at 9am tomorrow (January 22nd) with the general sale kicking off at 9am this Friday (January 24th).

Remember, this summer Interpol are set to play Optimus Alive alongside ATP Iceland. Interpol have confirmed the following UK headline shows:

18 Glasgow O2 Academy
19 Leeds O2 Academy
20 Manchester Academy
22 Liverpool O2 Academy
23 Nottingham Rock City
25 Birmingham O2 Academy
26 Bristol O2 Academy
27 London O2 Academy Brixton
