Incubus have confirmed plans to take a short break in order to focus on other projects.

In a climate hostile to rock music, Incubus continue to thrive. Remaining an enormously successful touring band, the American outfit recently laid their 2011 album 'If Not Now, When?' to rest.

Now it seems that the band are planning to take a break. Incubus are known for their infrequent bouts of hiatus, having previously taken five years off in the run up to recent album 'If Not Now, When?'

Now it seems that fans face another wait. Chatting to Billboard, singer Brandon Boyd explained that the members of Incubus are keen to face new challenges.

"We have no plans, to tell you the truth, at the moment, I have been tinkering around, potentially, with a second solo record" he said. "That's probably the most likely scenario. But as far as Incubus right now, we'll probably take another break."

He continued: "Hopefully it won't be as long as before, but what we'd like to do is arrive with the best of intentions and try to create music from a sense of urgency as well as purity and not necessarily based on a schedule. I know that can be frustrating for our listeners and stuff, but I think we'll make better music as a result."

Now free of their contract with Epic, Incubus are operating as an independent entity. "We are trying to get our bearings to what we should do next, just as a band but also a band that is off in new territory again," he said.

"I'm personally very excited about being in complete control, being a total control freak. That doesn't mean we wouldn't sign with another record label at some point, but it would have to be very, very specific, not get into just a good old fashioned record deal again, if they even exist."
