In new interview...
Idris Elba

British actor Idris Elba has labelled Liam Gallagher an "idiot" in a new interview.

It's Friday afternoon, so indulge us a little... Idris Elba is fast becoming one of the most in-demand actors of his generation, starring as Stringer Bell in The Wire.

Attending the NME Awards this year, though, the actor became involved in a squabble with Liam Gallagher. Playing a DJ recently, Idris Elba dropped in 'Wonderwall' which some members of the tabloid press took to be a slight at the Beady Eye frontman.

Speaking to GQ, the actor rejected this out of hand: "No! Fuck that idiot."

Reflecting on that spat at the NME awards, the actor explained that Liam Gallagher mocked his hat, and in return he ruffled the singer's hair. "Didn't like that. Don't touch his hair, apparently. Fuck off. Next time walk with a fucking hairdresser, then."

Continuing, Iris Elba stated that he believed the response amounted to no more than "'I'm a popular rock singer, so I'm going to be mean and fucking horrible to people just because they messed up my look.' Fuck off. I played his song because his song's a classic … I don't even know what his songs are about now or what band he's in now. No one gives a fuck, yeah? He was popular when he was in Oasis."

Of course, both artists are firm favourites with Clash. In fact, Idris Elba took part in a recent Personality Clash feature, which appeared at newsagents with Beady Eye on the cover...

Clash: the magazine that brings people together. Probably.

Here's 'Wonderwall':
