Ian Brown Gives Up Shopping

Icon gets free clobber

Indie star Ian Brown has revealed that he "gave up shopping" almost a decade ago.

Ian Brown became one of the most iconic singers of his generation. With The Stone Roses the frontman blended 60s cool with 80s casual while retaining a unique style all of his own.

Shifting effortlessly into a celebrated solo career, Ian Brown remains an icon. A hugely influential singer his style has also sparked a host of lookalike fans - some of whom have formed bands themselves.

However recently the singer admitted that he no longer buys clothes. "The only item of clothing I've bought in the last 11 years is a Burberry cashmere tartan scarf, that's the only thing," Brown told Absolute Radio. "I actually was able to give up shopping in February '99."

Ian Brown revealed that he receives numerous free outfits from designers. Amongst his favourites is the Japanese designer Kazuki Kuraishi who has been working with the singer for a decade.

"I get a box sent from Japan. Like, every eight weeks I get a big box, and there's my jeans and whatnot," he explained.

"Every item of clothing you've seen me in since 1999 will have been designed by Kazuki, he's one of the top streetwear designers of Japan. He now designs for Adidas and Levi's as well as a lot of the Japanese labels."

Ian Brown also revealed recently that his iconic track 'Fools Gold' was inspired by James Brown. "He’s got the funk too - James Brown is not the most sampled artist in hip-hop for nothing."

"The Stone Roses were mad into James Brown. We actually wrote ‘Fools Gold’ over ‘The Funky Drummer’ - we had it playing on a porta-studio and Reni had to learn how to play that beat."
