Hot Chip Work On Ambient Direction

New album to be downtempo

Electro geek chic hit makers Hot Chip have revealed that their new album will contain a more ambient direction.

Hot Chip have burst out of cult obscurity and into the mainstream. While 'The Warning' spawned semi-hit 'Over And Over' and warmed the cockles of critics follow up 'Made In The Dark' was a bona fide smash.

Lead single 'Ready For The Floor' was one of the year's defining tracks, while live shows demonstrated that the group were on sizzling form. Frequently ending in a tender version of Prince's 'Nothing Compares 2U' the band one of the most flexible and entertaining working in the UK right now.

New material is eagerly anticipated, with fans having to make do with a forthcoming 'Bugged Out' mix. The forthcoming compilation is surprisingly chilled out, and in a new interview Joe Goddard reveals that fans can expect more of the same from Hot Chip's new material.

Speaking to BBC 6Music he said "we're kind of stepping things down a bit because we want to make this next album quite simple, gentle, focussed; just 10 or 11 tracks of really excellent pop songs that hopefully will become timeless classics.”

Continuing, Goddard insisted that while the album will still have a dancefloor feel, they will reflect the mood towards the "end of the night".

"They'll be club tunes but not the really banging ones," he added.

"But making songs like that always gives you the scope to do a really banging remix, which we'll probably try and do as well."

Hot Chip are scheduled to release their currently untitled album early next year.
