Hot Chip Get Homeless
Band to star in new video
Electro geek chic merchants Hot Chip have been out and about doing their bit for charity recently, with the band’s Al Doyle starring in a new video for Hidden Homeless.
Hot Chip are one of Britain’s most unlikely success stories. Forming in the late 90s the group pottered around for a while, releasing albums on CDR. However after meeting the brains behind cult label Moshi Moshi the band’s career began to take off.
Debut album ‘Coming On Strong’ was met with critical acclaim, and led to the group penning a new deal with XL Recordings. Follow up album ‘The Warning’ looked to have slipped under the public’s radar until the dancefloor success of ‘Over And Over’ propelled Hot Chip into the mainstream.
But all that success hasn’t gone to the band’s heads. When homeless charity Crisis asked Hot Chipto play a secret show in London they were only too happy to oblige, before volunteering to help film a new video.
Al Doyle stars in the new film which is now available online. The Hot Chip star appears alongside a variety of actors, all of whom have experienced homelessness at one point or another. Soundtracked by ‘Over And Over’ the video is a moving tribute to a growing problem in Britain today.
Hot Chip will launch the new Crisis Hidden gigs campaign with a DJ in London on May5th, with support coming from Erol Alkan and Man Like Me.
