American blue collar rockers The Hold Steady are to release their new single 'Hurricane J' on May 17th.

Born from the competitive post-hardcore scene of Minneapolis, The Hold Steady blend the fury of punk with something deeply American. An updated version of Springsteen's ethics, the band are like a Steinbeck novel set to some seriously loud guitars.

With rising critical acclaim pushing the band out to a wider audience, The Hold Steady are ready to return with their new album. 'Heaven Is Whenever' will be released on May 3rd, and contains some of the band's most potent music yet.

Produced by Dean Baltulonis, the album is a return to their early punk roots. Singer Craig Finn has carved out some of his finest lyrics to date, with The Hold Steady to follow the album with a new single.

'Hurricane J' will be released on May 17th, with Craig Finn revealing that it is a unique dialogue between two characters.

"Hurricane J is a song that we wrote early in the record process, but changed bit by bit right up until the end" he explained.

"It's narrated from the point of view of an older man speaking to a younger woman, who believes himself to be more worldly and wise than his counterpart. He may, however, be mistaken in this belief."

Meanwhile, The Hold Steady have confirmed details of an appearance at Glastonbury. Set to perform on the Sunday (June 27th) the set will coincide with a handful of headline shows and a slot at the Isle Of Wight festival.

The Hold Steady are set to release 'Hurricane J' on May 17th.
