Gruff Rhys has always been quick to embrace new technology.
Super Furry Animals released their 2003 album 'Phantom Power' as a DVD, quickly realising that digital developments would afford them more room for expression.
Yet this new project is undoubtedly the songwriter's most ambitious to date. 'American Interior' will inspire an album, a book, a film and an app with Gruff Rhys aiming to tell the tale of John Evans - a farmhand from Snowdonia who in 1792 aimed to locate a lost tribe of Welsh-speaking Native Americans.
It's a bizarre story, but obviously one close to Rhys' own heart. A film crew followed the songwriter on a road trip as he attempted the journey himself, while the Welsh artist will expand on those themes in a new book.
As if that wasn't enough, the entire thing will be pulled together in a specially commissioned app which breaks even more boundaries.
Gruff Rhys explains more on his blog.
