Gruff Rhys Plans Solo Album

As new film opens

Welsh psych-folk wonder Gruff Rhys could be set to release a new solo album.

Gruff Rhys emerged from the Welsh language folk circuit, but where many of his contemporaries were interested in preserving the past the songwriter had more interest in the future.

Forming Super Furry Animals, the singer has become a songwriting legend. Releasing their new album 'Dark Days / Light Years' earlier this year, the band spent the summer entertaining crowds at festivals across the country.

Always keen to branch out on his own, Gruff Rhys filmed a new documentary earlier this year which focuses on his attempts to trace distant uncle Rene Griffiths - a guitarist who had moved from Wales to Patagonia, South America in 1974.

Titled 'Seperado!' the film is due to premiere in Cardiff on November 19th as part of the Soundtrack Film Festival.

Currently looking for a distributor to take the film across the country, the songwriter recently revealed that he aims to release the soundtrack from 'Seperado!' as a separate solo album sometime next year.

"We're going to show the film for the first time in November and hopefully someone will help me put out a DVD for release sometime next year," he told The Agit Reader.

"I also did a soundtrack for it, so that will be my next solo album by default."

Gruff Rhys is set to take part in an extensive Q&A session after the premiere of 'Seperado!'.
