Green Day Musical Trailer

'American Idiot' draws near

Californian punk trio Green Day have shot a new trailer for their much talked about musical 'American Idiot'.

Down on their luck, Green Day returned after a short break in 2004 with an ambitious new album. A concept album, the deeply political 'American Idiot' seemed to strike a chord around the world.

Re-launching the band's career, the album's hectoring anti-Bush stance seemed in line with the times. With Green Day returning earlier this year with new record '21st Century Breakdown' the band have decided to launch a new musical.

The stage production of 'American Idiot' may well be one of the most ambitious projects Green Day have undertaken. Opening recently, the band told reporters at the premiere that they had no intentions of reading the critics.

The production's script was co-written by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer. The new play sticks closely to the album's concept, and includes the band's music.

Despite many doubters, the 'American Idiot' musical is already becoming a hit. Los Angeles Times reports that the initial five week run has been doubled due to demand from fans.

Furthermore, 'American Idiot' has broken all of the Repertory Theater's box office records. The play now holds the record for top gross sales, biggest advance sales and the biggest single day box office receipts.
