Green Day In Lennon Tribute
Punks pay tribute to Beatles man
Massively successful punk trio Green Day are set to pay tribute to deceased Beatle John Lennon on their forthcoming album '21st Century Breakdown'.
Emerging from the West Coast punk scene Green Day hit paydirt with their catchy take on the legacy of The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers. Debut album 'Dookie' was a huge success, and despite losing their way in the late 90s the group raced back with 2004's rock opera 'American Idiot'.
A highly politicised work, 'American Idiot' earned the group massive critical respect as well renewed popularity.
Green Day covered John Lennon's 'Working Class Hero' last year for a charity compilation, and name checked the singer on a new track. According to Rolling Stone lyrics to a new track read “My generation is zero / I never made it as a working class hero.”
A concept album of sorts, the record is reportedly split into three segments: 'Heroes and Cons', 'Charlatans and Saints' and 'Horseshoes and Handgrenades'.
Green Day are set to release their new album '21st Century Breakdown' in May.
