Gorillaz Demos To Air

Albarn to become DJ

Gorillaz songwriter Damon Albarn is set to unveil a host of new material when he takes over from Zane Lowe as a presenter on Radio 1 next week, it has been announced.

Albarn has had his hands full dealing with the reformed Blur and the success of his opera 'Monkey: Journey To The West' but the prolific songwriter has still found time to work on new material with animated project Gorillaz.

The Gorillaz songwriter will fill in for energetic New Zealander Zane Lowe next Wednesday (January 14th) as part of the 'Takeover' series. Featuring a host of bands becoming guest presenters, the series lasts for a fortnight. Other stars set to take part include returing rave giants The Prodigy, Friendly Fires, Biffy Clyro and comedian Jimmy Carr.

Albarn's stint as host is set to include guest appearances from Gorillaz band members Murdoc Niccals 2D, Russel Hobbs and Noodle.

The new Gorillaz album is slated to appear in late 2009.
