Mid-Eighties indie stalwarts The Wedding Present were always gleefully unfashionable. Now, bizarrely, David Gedge, of the ever-changing combo, is living in California’s movie capital, and has made a new album soaked in the sounds of LA.
“There are some references,” he says, of ‘El Ray’. “I suppose the themes are lust, jealousy, betrayal, regret, obsession, superheroes… the usual.”
Produced by Steve Albini, the album drops here on May 26th, and the band will be heading over for some British dates in late May.
The full tour dates are :
Mon 26 May - HUB, Exeter
Tue 27 May - The Buttermarket, Shrewsbury
Wed 28 May - Blackpool Tower Lounge, Blackpool
Thu 29 May - The Waterfront, Norwich
Fri 30 May - El Rey Release Party: The Wedding Present - Corn Exchange at Brighton Dome, Brighton
