Glastonbury Reveal Springsteen Secrets

How to snag a rock god...

The forthcoming Glastonbury headline performance by Bruce Springsteen is set to be one of the highlights of the festival season, and in a new interview Emily Eavis has revealed just how she managed to persuade the rock legend to perform.

Bruce Springsteen doesn't seem like the Glastonbury type. Too urban, too rock driven and too damn successful. When Springsteen does a world tour he means it - packing in crowds that could often run to hundreds of thousands.

Yet this summer Bruce Springsteen is set to take to the stage for his first ever British festival appearance. With another set due shortly after at London's Hard Rock Calling event, it seems as it The Boss has caught the bug.

In a new interview Emily Eavis explains that the singer had never heard of the event before, and was only persuaded to venture down to Worthy Farm after organiser Eavis handed his management team a document filled with glowing quotes from bands.

"It's been our mission for quite a long time to get Bruce," she told BBC 6music. "I thought it was quite unlikely, especially when the agent said, 'Glaston-what?'"

"We put together a document for him and spoke to his people a lot and they are really up for it. He's never done a festival before so we didn't expect him to know much about it. It included quotes from lots of different people, musicians who have played."

"It's quite hard to understand why you should play a festival for not much money when you're being offered quite a lot to go elsewhere."

"We put together some information and said 'This is what happens, this is all the money that goes to charity'. Pretty quickly he said: 'Yes'. It's amazing."

Bruce Springsteen has also confirmed a number of enormous stadium dates this summer, alongside his festival commitments.

The singer released his latest album 'Working On A Dream' earlier this year. Recorded as President Barack Obama was swept into the White House, the album seems to capture some of the hope the politician embodies.

Having worked extensively on the campaign trail, Bruce Springsteen was then invited to perform at Barack Obama's inauguration.

Earlier today ClashMusic reported that Glastonbury is set to have a special guest. Tongues are already wagging, with fans predicting that anyone from Eminem to Radiohead or The Libertines could play...

Glastonbury is due to take place between June 24th - 28th.
