Glastonbury Plan Jackson Tribute

Festival to remember star

Somerset music extravaganza Glastonbury is set to remember Michael Jackson with a series of tributes.

Starting in 1971, Glastonbury is the biggest and quite possibly the best music festival in Britain. Now moving far beyond its reputation as a crusty haven, the event is now synonymous with rather well-heeled clientele.

Last year organisers unveiled Jay-Z as a headliner, to enormous criticism. Pundits such as Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher claimed the move abandoned the festival's core principles as a guitar driven event, which Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis refuted.

Vowing to stick to less controversial choices, Glastonbury has still managed to sneak N.E.R.D. onto the Somerset site via the back door. However with Michael Jackson dying yesterday (June 26th) organisers have decided to pay tribute to the artist.

Jackson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a suspected heart attack. With the entertainment world in mourning, organisers of the Worthy Farm event have taken the decision to pay tribute to one of the most popular singers in the history of pop music.

Taking place this weekend, Glastonbury is set to unveil a series of tributes to Michael Jackson. Writing on the festival's official Twitter page organiser Emily Eavis revealed her sadness at the passing of the pop legend.

"So sad to hear the news about MJ," she wrote. "There will be tributes all over the site all weekend. A truly great artist. Emily."

Glastonbury has yet to confirm details of the tributes. The festival is continually adding to its line up, with The Dead Weather confirmed for a show on the Park Stage today (June 26th).

Jack White's new group are preparing to release their debut album 'Horehound' on July 13th. With only a handful of live dates behind them the group's shows are the subject of much debate, with The Dead Weather recently playing an intimate London date.
