One off London event announced
Ghostpoet is set to team up with HP and Last.fm for a pop up show in London.
The central problem of UK hip hop is how to make credible rap music sound British. Released earlier this year, Ghostpoet's debut album manages to maintain both sides of the argument, constructing forward thinking beats that sound uniquely British.
'Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam' was released back in February, with Gilles Peterson's Brownswood imprint putting some muscle behind the rapper. Gathering momentum, it has become an unlikely word of mouth success.
Ghostpoet received a nod in the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize shortlist, and is now preparing for a lengthy British tour. New single 'Liiines' is set to drop on September 5th, but before then the rapper has confirmed an unusual London pop up show.
Taking place in the Big Chill bar on Brick Lane, the pop up session is the latest in a series of events arranged by HP and Last.fm. Supported by the Black Cab Sessions, this is the last show in the current run of events.
Following in the footsteps of Slow Club and The Boxer Rebellion, Ghostpoet is set to strip his music down to the bare bones.
Meanwhile, the rapper's full British tour is set to launch next month. Opening in Cardiff on September 22nd, the tour winds it way around the UK including shows in Glasgow, Oxford, Bristol and more.
Finishing in Newcastle on October 14th, the tour includes some intimate venues. Given that Ghostpoet is an outside tip for Mercury glory, the entire tour be re-written if the rapper waltzes away with the prize...
