George Harrison Album Due

'Best Of' Beatles legend

Beatles legend George Harrison is set to have the best of his solo recordings gathered on the forthcoming album 'Let It Roll: Songs By George Harrison'.

George Harrison joined The Beatles at the behest of Paul McCartney, who was stunned at the teenage guitar player's mastery of Gene Vincent riffs. Harrison lived in the shadow of Lennon And McCartney, two of the greatest songwriters of modern music.

However Harrison contributed some of The Beatles best loved songs, including 'Something'. Turning solo after the group split in 1970, Harrison wasted no time in releasing his vast stockpile of songs as 'All Things Must Pass'.

A triple album deeply influenced by his study of Eastern religion, it stands in many fans' eyes as the best solo album by a Beatle to date. Paul and Ringo - you have a lot to live up to!

Following this Harrison organised the first ever rock benefit concert with 1971's 'Concert For Bangladesh'. Three live tracks from his performance there are included on the forthcoming album.

In later years Harrison would record with the supergroup The Travelling Wilburys. Joining Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty in the group this was truly an all-star affair, releasing two albums before splitting. Sadly, Harrison died in 2002 following a long battle with lung cancer.

The new album contains some Harrison penned tracks from his years with The Beatles, but also extends beyond the entirety of his solo years.

George Harrison was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame yesterday (April 14th). His wife Olivia Harrison told the crowds "we all have deep feelings for George because he was such a deep-feeling person. Once you'd met him you couldn’t help but be drawn into his world. And he wanted to be in your world too."

The new collection 'Let It Roll: Songs By George Harrison' is due to be released on June 16th. The album's full tracklisting has yet to be announced.
