Frightened Rabbit Hometown Show
Stag & Dagger update
This weekend's Stag & Dagger event just got a little tastier with the news that Frightened Rabbit and Jack Penate are set to join the party.
Formed last year by a group of promoters who felt the Camden Crawl had become that little bit bloated, Stag & Dagger is an exciting new showcase event set to take place this weekend. Held over three cities, the event can genuinely claim to represent new music from across Britain.
Frightened Rabbit may hail from Selkirk in the Scottish Borders, but the band came of age in Glasgow. Playing regular slots in venues such as The Captain's Rest the group built up a devoted following, releasing debut album 'Sing The Greys' before being snapped up by Fat Cat.
Second album 'Midnight Organ Fight' was a surprise hit, with music fans being bowled over the mixture of euphoric music and biting, heart-broken lyrics. More used to playing substantial venues now, Frightened Rabbit returned to their old watering hole Captain's Rest in Glasgow recently to record a live album.
The band are currently holed up in rural Fife working on new material. However Frightened Rabbit are set to scurry out of their warren for a very special performance at Stag & Dagger, playing Glasgow's ABC1 venue on May 23rd.
Meanwhile down south music fans can enjoy a set by returning troubadour Jack Penate. Arriving with a barrel load of hype, Penate's debut album 'Matinee' sank under failed expectations.
However the songwriter has been working hard and new record 'Everything's New' is much more representative of his talent. Out soon on XL Recordings, the album will be followed with a number of live shows including Scotland's T In The Park.
Taking to the stage on May 21st in London's Cafe 1001, Penate will headline a special Young Turks party. Also confirmed for the bill are the likes of renamed indie stars The XX, Phantom, Arch M and much more.
Stag And Dagger takes place in venues across London, Leeds and Glasgow between May 21st - 23rd.
