Friendly Fires Work On Second Album

Could be released in May

St Albans trio Friendly Fires have revealed that they hard at work on their new album, which could be released in May.

Friendly Fires have had a stunning year. Releasing their debut album last September the record has been a slow burning, its popularity propelled by successive tours and word of mouth hype.

Nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, the band also travelled to South America where they picked up some new inspirations. Friendly Fires returned from the tour rejuvenated and almost immediately wrote and recorded the hit single 'Kiss Of Life'.

Backed by a quirky video the track launched another period of touring for Friendly Fires, which will apparently be followed by an extended stay in the studio.

Speaking to BBC 6Music the band's singer Ed MacFarlane confirmed that their second album may only be months away. "We have about four tracks done already, which is really good because we only came off the road about a month ago, so we're really pleased with the way it's panning out" he confirmed.

"We're going to hopefully have all the songs finished by the end of the year, record in January and have the album ready for May time, and do some festivals around then."

Best known for tracks such as 'Paris' and of course 'Kiss Of Life' the frontman denied that Friendly Fires are trying to craft pop-orientated material.

"I don't think we’re trying to think about writing pop hits because I think as soon as you do that you’re missing the point a little bit and you'll end up writing really bad songs," he said. "So we're just writing whatever comes naturally."

Friendly Fires are planning to release their second album in May.
