Well, now they're back. A few moments ago the band confirmed plans to release their eighth studio album this Autumn, with Dave Grohl insisting that fans should expect the unexpected.
Speaking to Radio 1's Zane Lowe earlier this year, the genial drummer stated: "I know what it sounds like and I honestly think the entire concept is really going to take people by surprise and it sounds nuts."
In the run up to the album's release, HBO are to broadcast an eight part documentary series focussing on the making of the album. Directed by Dave Grohl himself, the series finds Foo Fighters recording one song each in Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, DC and New York, delving into the history of each location.
"Dave’s heartfelt passion for this project is contagious and his talent as a musician and filmmaker is undeniable," said Michael Lombardo, President, HBO Programming. "We are excited to go on this journey with him and the Foo Fighters for this insider’s look at how regional music inspired them to create their own new music."
Foo Fighters' HBO series is set to kick off later this year.
