Folk America Announced

Tickets going fast

The folk music of the United States is set to be celebrated with a series of concerts to be held in London's Barbican venue, with Seasick Steve and Billy Bragg amongst the curators.

A mongrel nation, America's folk music styles evolved from the consecutive waves of mass emigration which took place over the past two hundred or so years. It seems that whatever nationality set foot on the shore of the United States, they took a song with them. Many old British folk songs survive in various forms across the United States, the last remaining link to the old world they left behind.

A new series of concerts will revive this link, with the best of the American folk world converging on the Barbican. Curated by Seasick Steve, 'Hollerers, Stompers & Old Time Ramblers' gathers together some of the finest blues, cajun and bluegrass musicians for an old fashioned jam session.

Another special night will be curated by Billy Bragg. The Bard of Barking will host 'Greenwich Village Revisited' a celebration of the New York folk scene in the 60s. Containing such legends as Judy Collins and Roger McGuinn, this is a night not to be missed.

'Folk America' runs in the Barbican, London from January 21st - 22nd.
