Flying Lotus Confirms New EP
'Patter + Grid World'
Los Angeles producer Flying Lotus is set to release his new EP 'Patter + Grid World' on September 20th.
Flying Lotus just doesn't know when to stop. Returning with his expansive new album 'Cosmogramma' the producer took inspiration from jazz, hip hop, electronica and more to produce something wholly unique.
Containing a guest appearance from Radiohead singer Thom Yorke, the album is one of the most accomplished things Flying Lotus has yet put his name to. Recently curating a tiny festival in London, the producer has spent the best part of the summer travelling across the globe.
However it seems that Flying Lotus has somehow managed to complete a new EP. While 'Cosmogramma' was an epic trip across vastly different music scenes, the new release is much more coherent.
'Patter + Grid World' is due to be released next month, and pulls the focus back towards machines. In typical Flying Lotus style though, the myriad of drum machines and synths still produces something unique.
'Clay' is lost in a fog of vocoder and synths, while 'Kill Your Co-Workers' is a frightening slice of electro-pop gone wrong. A puzzling, enchanting release 'Pattern + Grid World' is another new direction from the Los Angeles beatsmith.
A world away from his hip hop roots, the EP comes backed with an unusual cover courtesy of Theo Ellsworth. An acclaimed illustrator, the result is a design which is eye catching yet subtly unsettling.
To preview the new EP, Flying Lotus has uploaded 'Camera Day' from the new EP.
