Flaming Lips Score New Film
About mushrooms, appropriately
Ohio psychedelic stars The Flaming Lips are amongst the groups contributing new material to an upcoming film about the humble mushroom.
Whilst now firmly ensconced on the mainstream with only the occasional reminder of their early days, Flaming Lips were once space-trippin' freaks. A new film titled 'Know Your Mushrooms' nods at the groups past, and contains new material by Wayne Coyne's band of mind expanding rockers.
Directed by Ron Mann, the film apparently "opens the doors to perception, takes the audience on a longer, stranger trip and delivers them to a brave new world where the fungi might well guide humanity to a saner, safer place… with extra cheese…" according to a statement on the film's website.
Aside from previously released Lips' tracks such as "The Wizard Turns On..." from At War with the Mystics and The Soft Bulletin's "What Is the Light?", the film contains a new track by the group. "Anything You Say Now I Believe You" is currently streaming on the band's Myspace and is a trippy salute to the mushroom. Far out, man.
'Know Your Mushrooms' is playing in selected cinemas across the United States. There is no news of a soundtrack album.
