Flaming Lips Let Fans Choose Set

Unveil unusual new scheme

Oklahoma oddballs The Flaming Lips are set to accept requests from fans when they perform at this summer's Pitchfork Festival.

The Flaming Lips are one of the world's most unique live acts. With a stunning back catalogue to draw on, Wayne Coyne's charisma and his habit of leaping out into the audience inside an enormous plastic bubble the band have become in demand festival fare.

Set to play Scotland's Rock Ness festival this summer, look out for more psychedelic hi-jinks in the Highlands!

However a forthcoming performance in Chicago will see the group allow fans to write their set list for them. Flaming Lips are due to headline this summer's Pitchfork Festival on July 19th, and have promised that no request is too much effort.

Taking requests as part of the 'Write The Night' format, The Flaming Lips will play the inaugural festival as part of a bill that includes some of the finest names in American rock music.

"The Lips are more than glad to be part of 'Write the Night', Wayne Coyne told Pitchfork. "They will do their best to accommodate the wildest and most obscure of request - covers included."

Wayne Coyne has been playing peacemaker recently. Last year a bizarre row erupted between The Flaming Lips and Arcade Fire after Coyne accused them of being "pricks".

Infuriated and puzzled, Arcade Fire responded in a brief statement that said they had no idea where Wayne Coyne had got that idea from. The Flaming Lips frontman seems to agree, and recently retracted his insults.

Flaming Lips have also been in the middle of a row in their native Oklahoma. Their song 'Do You Realize?' was recently chosen to become the State's official song. Causing no small amount of political furore, the song was eventually accepted after being rejected by the state's House Of Representatives.

The Flaming Lips are set to play the Pitchfork Music Festival on July 19th. Voting for the set list takes place via email and closes on June 12th.
