Flaming Lips Hit Bestival

Isle of Wight festival huge success

The Flaming Lips played an emotional set at this year’s Bestival, closing the second night.

Bestival is one of the most unusual events on the festival calendar. This year organisers set a fancy dress theme of ‘fantasy’ which the ClashMusic team used as a spring board for their own fevered creations.

Arriving as a fantasy football team and Beetlejuice, the site was wet from previous rainfall but held up well throughout the weekend. With headliners including Roxy Music and Dizzee Rascal the festival was nothing if not varied.

Throughout the weekend Clash teamed up with Right Guard, helping out at their Off Guard shows. Chatting to the headline acts you can expect a raft of exclusive videos from the event throughout this week!

Meanwhile, ClashMusic also settled down to catch The Flaming Lips. The band closed the second night of the event (September 11th) with a typically euphoric show at the Isle Of Wight festival.

At the start the band emerged to a flurry of applause and special effects, with singer Wayne Coyne rolling out in a giant inflatable ball. The celebratory set contained a host of vintage material, alongside cuts from last year’s ‘Embryonic’.

“I hope this festival carries on for a hundred years, and that you have us back every couple of years or so,” said the singer. The Flaming Lips ended with a rendition of ‘Do You Realize?’ before leaving to enormous applause.

Bestival enjoyed warm weather, despite predictions of heavy rain. The site enjoyed a few showers, but in the main remained dry allowed fans to wear their often lavish fancy dress costumes without worrying about the weather.

Bestival closed with a set from titanic rave heroes The Prodigy. Look out for our extensive report soon!
