Flaming Lips Gets Physical

'Dark Side Of The Moon' due on vinyl

Oklahoma psych-pop mavericks The Flaming Lips are to give their version of 'Dark Side Of The Moon' a physical release.

Released in 1973, Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon' went on to become one of the defining albums of the decade. Arguably the high water mark of prog rock, it proved that the genre had some commercial legs.

The point where Pink Floyd finally left Syd Barrett behind, the album retains an enduring appeal. Amongst its many fans are The Flaming Lips, who revealed plans to cover the entire LP last year.

Taking place on New Year's Eve, the hometown show saw The Flaming Lips burst through 'Dark Side Of The Moon' along with some special guests. Released as a download only album immediately afterwards, the recorded version included surprise appearances from Henry Rollins, Peaches and more.

One of The Flaming Lips more off the wall moments, the band are now set to bring 'Dark Side Of The Moon' to vinyl.

As part of the Record Store Day celebrations on April 17th the group are to release the album on a physical format. Available on deluxe vinyl, Flaming Lips will follow this a CD version on May 4th.

Once again, The Flaming Lips are set for a busy summer. After last year's head spinning turn at RockNess the band are due to return for another batch of festival appearances including Wales' Green Man event.
