Flaming Lips Confirm UK Tour

First UK dates in three years

Oklahoma psychedelic pop wonders The Flaming Lips have confirmed their first UK tour in three years.

Witnessing The Flaming Lips live is one of life's real pleasures. Too often bands shuffle onstage, churn out the hits and leave behind them a feeling of discontent. Not so with The Flaming Lips.

Take their recent RockNess show, for example. The band emerged onstage in an enormous bubble, exhorting the crowd to cheer louder. Launching themselves into a greatest hits style set, singer Wayne Coyne was at one point surrounded by tellytubbies.

Madness, sheer madness but also great fun. A highlight of the festival, The Flaming Lips have now confirmed details of a full UK tour ahead of the release of their forthcoming double album 'Embryonic'.

The Flaming Lips last released an album in 2006, with their celebrated record 'At War With The Mystics'. A typically mind-blowing collection the band then spent time working on their long awaited film 'Christmas On Mars'.

Shot in Wayne Coyne's back garden (or 'yard' to our American cousins) the film was a bizarre yet entertaining testament to the band's continual creativity. Since then, the band have been working on their new album which is near completion.

In a recent interview Coyne claimed that all the material was recorded, and that Flaming Lips only had to finish the mixing and set the songs in the right order. A double album, the new material is though to be typically ambitious.

The upcoming tour will launch after 'Embryonic' is released, with the band returning to Britain for the first time in three years. Amongst the venues for the tour is a 1930s art deco venue in London.

Joining The Flaming Lips on the tour are the support acts Stardeath and White Dwarfs - featuring Wayne Coyne's nephew. The Flaming Lips are set to play the following dates:

November
10 London Troxy
13 Portsmouth Guildhall
15 Glasgow O2 Academy
16 Manchester Academy
17 Birmingham Academy

Tickets go on sale from 9am on July 3rd.
