fIREHOSE Compilation Due

'lowFLOWs' collects the Columbia years

Seminal American group fIREHOSE are to collect their Columbia output on new compilation ‘lowFLOWs’.

A perennially under-rated band, fIREHOSE reformed earlier this year. Didn’t notice? Perhaps that was because news broke on the same day that At The Drive-In and Refused emerged from the shadows.

Terrible luck, but then, fIREHOSE were never exactly blessed with luck. A wonderfully creative outfit, the band’s Columbia output is set to be collected on the new compilation ‘lowFLOWs’.

Amongst the underground bands who sneaked onto major labels in the grunge explosion, fIREHOSE released two albums for Columbia. Said LPs – 1991’s ‘Flyin’ the Flannel’ and 1993’s ‘Mr. Machinery Operator’) – will be banded together for the new release.

Alongside spruced up versions of those albums, the upcoming compilation also features 44 minutes of unreleased and out of print material. Columbia have raided the vaults, with the label adding all seven songs from the ‘Live Totem Pole’ EP and a variety of B-sides, covers, demos and instrumental versions.

Michael Azerrad – author of ‘Our Band Could Be Your Life’ amongst many others – supplies the sleeve notes, which will no doubt meet his usual high standards.

No European shows as yet, but fIREHOSE have confirmed a number of coastal dates in the United States.

fIREHOSE are to release ‘lowFLOWs’ on April 3rd (April 2nd in the UK).
