Fiona Apple has offered a statement behind her recent 'onstage meltdown' in Tokyo.
When is a meltdown not a meltdown? When it's Fiona Apple, we guess.
The American artist recently agreed to play a corporate show on behalf of Louis Vuitton, performing to an intimate crowd in Tokyo. Far from respectful, the crowd continually interrupted and at one point the noise provoked Fiona Apple into a savage tirade.
Billed as an 'onstage meltdown' in some areas of the press, it appears that reports rather exceeded the truth. Fiona Apple sent an email to close friend ?uestlove about the incident, explaining that she completed her set as scheduled before making an admittedly perfunctory exit.
?uestlove was allowed to post a portion of the note online - check it out below. (via Stereogum)
"if it wouldn’t be too much trouble, if you could tweet to the twits who call themselves journalists(example Chris Martins of sit-and-Spin Magazine) that I FINISHED MY SET!!! I did my job, and they should do theirs too–They all miss the fact that there is a difference between the back-of-the-room-chatter that is simply annoying,–and the operatic drunken blather, or the heckling that is really just INTERRUPTING that makes it impossible for us to do our jobs. I hope your readers are already hip to the fact that they are consistently lied to… no apologies. -Fiona."
